- Assistant Professor of Health Management and Policy -
Division of Public Administration - Mark O. Hatfield School
of Government - Tenure Track
The
Division of Public Administration in the Mark O. Hatfield
School of Government at Portland State University is seeking
to fill a tenure/tenure track position at the rank of Assistant
Professor for the Fall of 2009 with expertise in health
management and policy. We seek a faculty colleague to teach
graduate level courses in our MPA-HA and MPH - HMP programs,
as well as pursue scholarly agendas and self-funded program
development with community partners, across content areas
that may include health services design, delivery, evaluation,
leadership development, governance and/or strategy. Expertise
in cognate areas of nonprofit and public management, and
ability to contribute to our MPA and PhD programs, is an
asset.
Minimum
Qualifications
Earned doctorate in a relevant discipline by September 2009
Beginning or developed track record of published scholarship
and externally funded activity.
Competence in teaching graduate students.
Developing or demonstrated history of community engagement
and collaboration.
The
successful candidate will be expected to engage actively
in teaching in the Division's programs, advising students,
participating in Divisional and institutional governance,
and engaging with community organizations in collaborative
research, consultation and service activities. Information

The
Division of Public Administration offers the Master of Public
Health: Health Management and Policy as part of the CEPH
-accredited Oregon Master of Public Health program, which
is a collaborative effort with Oregon Health & Science
University and Oregon State University. It also offers
the Master of Public Administration and the Master of Public
Administration: Health Administration, both accredited by
NASPAA. The Division also participates in the Public Administration
and Policy PhD program. The Division enrolls over 350 masters
and doctoral students, and has a core group of 12 faculty
engaged in teaching, research and service in diverse areas
such as health services management research, public sector
management, nonprofit management, community engagement,
natural resources policy, and leadership development both
domestically and internationally.
The
Division is home to the newly created Center for Public
Service, which builds upon the existing Institute for Nonprofit
Management and the Executive Leadership Institute. The successful
candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the
Center and develop self-funded activities that may include
certificate course work, applied community-based research,
and/or leadership development programs designed to meet
the needs of domestic and international health management,
nonprofit, public safety, and/or local government agencies.
The
College of Urban and Public Affairs has approximately 70
full-time faculty. Other schools in the College are the
Nohad A. Toulan School of Urban Studies and Planning, and
the School of Community Health. In addition to Public Administration,
the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government incorporates the
Divisions of Political Science and Criminology and Criminal
Justice. The research and service units within the College
include the Institute on Aging, the Institute of Portland
Metropolitan Studies, the Center for Urban Studies, and
the Center for Population Research and Census.

Compensation
The
starting annual salary rate for this position will be dependent
upon qualifications and experience with an excellent benefits
package including fully paid health care; a generous retirement
package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse
or one dependent at any of the Oregon University System
schools.
