- Data Warehouse Architect - Information Technologies

The
Data Warehouse Architect will direct the work/activities
of other system administrators within departments outside
of OIT as it applies to data mining and analysis in support
of key administrative positions at PSU. The position will
serve as the lead for strategic development and design,
participating in management meetings, as it applies to the
architecture, data security, and data integrity of data
mining and warehousing for the campus-wide solution
Located
in downtown Portland , Oregon 's most diverse community,

The
Office of Information Systems
The
Office of Information Technologies (OIT) provides academic
and administrative computer support and communications for
the University. OIT is comprised of Campus Networking
(CNS), Information Systems (IS), User Support Service (USS),
and Telecommunications (TEL).
Position
Responsibilities
- Work Closely with Users
to design solutions and ensure final project success.
- Ensure system security
and privacy of sensitive data.
- Evaluates, develops,
and documents emerging tools, technologies, and standards;
analyzes and makes recommendations regarding feasibility;
prepares related reports.
- Provide support to Director
of IS as needed in system changes and special projects.
- Assist with training
and serve as technical resource for IT staff; coordinating
and supervising the creation of general user training
materials.
- Architect, Design, and
Develop Data Warehouse Solutions

Consult
with University faculty, staff and administrators; assist
users in analyzing their needs, architecting & developing
technical solutions to meet those data mining and warehouse
needs; assist with development of user test plans; and
documenting the solution both technically and for user
reference.

Provide
high level architecture design, development and support
in db design, data modeling, and report structures.

Serve
as a technical resource and as a technical leader for
project teams on complex projects and to other OIT personnel.

Program, test, debug and document new applications using
appropriate tools.

Serve
on team responsible for design and implementation of database
standards

Maintain
communication with users on the effectiveness of delivered
solutions and refine systems accordingly.

Ensure
minimal downtime.
- Coordinate with other units,
both within and outside the University, to ensure the security,
integrity and validation of data.
- Maintain, Trouble-shoot
and Upgrade Data Warehouse Application

Work
with technical and non-technical teams to implement, maintain
and/or enhance the data warehouse application, data models,
and other integrated system products as required.

Program, test, debug and document modifications/enhancements
using appropriate tools.

Develop specifications for developing those solutions.

Maintain communication with users concerning current product
performance and future needs.

Tune applications for optimal performance.
Required
Education, Experience and Qualifications
-
Master's
Degree and four years appropriate technical experience;
or, an equivalent combination of education and experience
sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties
of the job.

Ability
to diagnose/resolve technical problems independently and
to lead development and implementation of new and complex
applications.

Ability
to manage a project team whose success will have a significant
financial impact to the Institution.
-
Able
to technically support all areas of responsibility; typically
serving as the end of technical problem escalation chain.
-
Significant
experience in application systems design, programming
and Oracle database management systems.
-
Strong
interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
with technical staff as well as non-technical users.

Group leadership and project implementation skills.
-
Proven
experience managing all aspects of a project.

Experience with C, Perl and Java programming languages.
-
Extensive knowledge and experience using Oracle tools,
SQL, Unix shell programming.
-
Ability
to work in fast-paced, production environment and to provide
possible evening and weekend support.

Able
to work with sensitive/confidential information and to
handle such information as required by Federal, State,
and OIT regulations/policies.
Salary
and Benefits
This is a full-time, 12 month position with an annual 1.0
FTE salary range of $70,000 - $80,000 plus an excellent
benefits package including fully paid healthcare, reduced
tuition rates for the employee, spouse or one dependant
at any of the OUS institutions, and a generous retirement
and vacation package.
