Department of Curriculum and Instruction invites applications
and nominations for a tenure track faculty member in Early
Childhood/Elementary Education.

The
Graduate School of Education awards masters and doctoral
degrees, and prepares teachers, administrators, and counselors
for urban, diverse, and other communities, emphasizing issues
of equity and social justice. In the Department of Curriculum
and Instruction programs are offered in licensure for early
childhood, elementary, middle level and high school education,
educational media, technology and literacy, and bilingual
teacher preparation. As a major institution for teacher
education located in Oregon 's largest urban center, PSU's
Graduate school of Education is in a unique position to
take leadership and have an impact on school change in the
area.
Appointment
Assistant
Professor of Education, 1.0 FTE, tenure-track, nine-month
appointment, commencing September 16, 2009. Summer employment
is available, but not guaranteed.
Responsibilities
Teaching courses in Early Childhood/Elementary Education
as well as other core courses in the Curriculum and Instruction
Master's Degree Program including courses in the Early
Childhood specialization
Leading cohorts of preservice teachers seeking early childhood/elementary
certification
Advancing a scholarly agenda and mentoring masters and doctoral
students in research
Actively supporting the Graduate School of Education's diversity
agenda
Qualifications
(required):
Earned doctorate in early childhood/elementary education
or equivalent
Experience or evidence of capability to lead cohorts of
preservice teacher candidates
Experience in multicultural and diverse settings and a
commitment to social justice
Early childhood or elementary teaching experience (minimum
three years)
Qualifications
(preferred):
Early elementary grades teaching experience (K-2) in a
public school
Proficiency with early childhood/elementary assessment
Background in one or more of the following disciplines:
literacy, science, or ESL /bilingual education.
Expertise in using technology to support learning.
Salary
The
starting annual salary is dependent on qualifications with
an excellent benefits package including fully paid healthcare;
a generous retirement package; and reduced tuition rates
for employee, spouse or dependant at any of the Oregon University
System schools.
